When we first met William, he was like the real-life Hulk. Leukemia treatment and several episodes of respiratory failure and ventilator dependency didn’t dampen his spirits;

he was always upbeat. As long as he had people around him who were joyful, he couldn’t help but be cheerful himself. He was a happy person who cherished the time he spent with his loved ones.

His favourite spot to visit in New Jersey was Ocean City, where he loved to relax on the beach and snack on treats like ice cream and cheese puffs.

For the first time in his life, William got to meet his Toy Story heroes at Disney World over the holidays in 2013. His favourite pastime was Special Olympics basketball, and his team was fortunate enough to take home a gold medal in their inaugural season!

A particular place in his heart will always be held by his peers, teachers, schoolmates, and nurses, who made his days important and memorable.

The REACH programme at St. Raphael church was a particular highlight for William when it came to his religious education. He was always surrounded by affection and had a profound effect on everyone who came into contact with him.

A special thanks goes out to Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital for the exceptional care William received during our lengthy stays in the PICU unit.

The memory of William will never fade. In every way, he was a superhero and a warrior, and he was adored by countless people. He was a living example of what it means to be kind, compassionate, and peaceful. Let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with each of us, in memory of William.
