Mark Bass Obituary | Mark Steven Bass was born in Bossier City, Louisiana on October 2, 1963 to Cecil and Ada Mae Bass. He was the youngest of ten children. He went to live with the Lord on Tuesday, April 13th, and began preparing our home in heaven.
In 1981, Mark graduated from Bossier High School. He was named All-City, All-District, and honourable mention All-State in baseball, as well as All-City.
All-District, and All-State in football, and he was named to TWO first team All-American teams, as well as ALL-Decade Team Shreveport-Bossier from 1980 to 1990.
Later, he was inducted into the Bossier High School Sports Hall of Fame. Mark was regarded as a Blue Chip Prospect in Louisiana.
He was chosen out of high school to pitch for the California Angels but turned it down to pursue his ambition of playing football for the LSU Tigers.
Mark participated in the 1983 Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. According to legend, Ada Mae can still be heard cheering him on from the stands!
Mark returned to Bossier City after graduating from LSU and later welcomed his son, Justin Steven Bass, in 1988.
While working for her brother-in-law at Master Plumbing in 1991, Mark met the love of his life, Vicki. Mark and Vicki dated and were engaged for nine and a half years before tying the knot on April 1, 2000. They used to say that two fools got married on April Fools’ Day.
They raised four children together, Kristin, Jarred, Katie, and Justin, and filled their lives with love, laughter, family, and friends.
Mark joined the Bossier City Fire Department in 1998. He retired in August 2019 after serving 21 years alongside his brothers.
Mark was a GIANT both on and off the field, but his stature paled in comparison to his generous heart. Mark spent his life serving his favourite city, his family and friends, and anybody he met who needed a helping hand or a good laugh. He never met a stranger, was the life of the party, and never passed up a good time.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Ada Mae Bass, as well as his siblings Cecile Thompson, Terry Bass , Kay Swope , Judy Taylor, and lifelong friends Martin Lopez, Phil Loar, and Patrick McArdle.
His wife, Vicki Bass, survives him, as do his children: Jarred Vincent and wife Emily Vincent, Kristin Vincent Jackson (daughter) and wife Tabetha Jackson, Katie Vincent , and Justin Bass;
grandchildren: Bailey Coleman and Connor, Landry and Wyatt Vincent; and his siblings: Sandra Roe, Mary and Louis Cascio, Ollie Bryan, Sheree Pulley, and Dean Bass, as do countless nieces, nephew

Mark Steven Bass’s memorial service will be place at the Bossier City Civic Center on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton will be used for the interment. Visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Jeff Roberson, Buddy Caskey, Chris Dison, Andy Lowrie, Jason Shelton, Dwayne Elliott, Matt Lauterbach, and Jeff Phipps are among the players on the team. Todd Durkee, Ed Scott, Gregg Dubroc, Mike Cobb, Elton Smith, Steve Clark, and John Lopez will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mark was a passionate sports lover who enjoyed travelling and filming events on his trusty camcorder. He also enjoyed taking his children on summer trips, wandering along Lake Michigan, searching for components for his classic VW Vanagons, and making tribute DVDs to commemorate family members and memorable occasions.
Nothing made him happier than making a video clip to look back on. He also enjoyed participating in the Richfield, Minnesota Bass Bar Crawl and donating to heart research in honour of his son Jason.
