Margaret Murdaugh Obituary | Only one thing was found out about Margaret Kennedy Branstetter, the wealthy South Carolina woman who married one of the state’s wealthiest men and flew around the country in a private aircraft, according to her relatives and friends.
Maggie Murdaugh, as she was known as an adult, lavished her two kids with attention and affection.As far as most people can tell, her 26-year-old son Buster was a lot more laid back and well-adjusted than his 22-year-old brother Paul.
who were both fatally shot at the family hunting lodge in rural Colleton County last June. Although widely reported on by media outlets around the world, the case of the now-famous murders is still unsolved.
It was in 1991 when she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. A member of Kappa Delta Sorority, she had a lot of friends.
Summers at their beach property in Edisto were a favourite time of year for Maggie and her husband, Alex. Maggie had a generous spirit and was always happy to host guests and family in her home.
She enjoyed her family and looked forward to their boat trips. In the minds of her boys’ many friends, she will be regarded as a “second mother.” Throughout her life, she made the most of every opportunity and savoured every moment.
A boating accident in February 2019 claimed the life of Mallory Beach, a 19-year-old former girlfriend of Paul’s. Friends testified that Paul’s alter persona, “Timmy,” took on new characteristics after he began drinking heavily.
According to a family member who spoke to The Washington Post, Paul was a challenge from the time he was a toddler.
A member of the family claimed, “I saw him snap at least once.” Nancy, go f–k yourself, he told his aunt. He would have been about 11 years old at the time. I think there were a few other kids there with us, but I don’t recall seeing anyone else.
When I confronted him about it, he told me that he didn’t care. He didn’t handle his position of power properly.”
Buster’s eldest kid went to school with Bubba Mixson’s family in Varnville, SC; the 52-year-old recalls that his and his wife had a good relationship with Maggie and her family.
He argued that she shouldn’t be held responsible for her sons’ overindulgence because she’s a mother. Throughout her life, she remained a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, working just briefly at a gift shop on Hampton’s main street decades ago.
When Murdaugh graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1991, it was then that she met her future husband, Alex, according to the obituary her family wrote for her.
Since graduating from college, she has maintained in touch with several of her Kappa Delta Sorority sisters. During the summers, Maggie and Alex enjoyed spending time at their beach property in Edisto, SC, with their two sons.
As stated in her memorial, “Maggie had a heart of genuine kindness, and she loved welcome visitors into her house on any given occasion,” according to the obituary.
“She loved spending time with her two sons on the boat and appreciated the memories she made with them. Many of her sons’ friends will always think of her as a’second mom,’ as she was to them. In every scenario, she found a way to make the best of it, and she made the most of every day.”
Murdaugh was schooled in Colleton County’s public schools. Smoaks, South Carolina, was the site of her longtime job at a sewing factory. This ability came in handy when she needed to provide for her children’s needs.
As a child, Rev. Murdaugh grew up in the Rock of Ages CME Church, where she was a “committed” and “loyal” member who demonstrated her devotion to her church and to God by serving others and participating in church activities.
She exuded confidence, as if to say, “Here I Am Send Me” if the “Lord” so desired. It was under the guidance of Rev. C.J. Fennell that the call to preach emerged in the 1970s.
Prior to serving as an ordained pastor, she completed a ministerial training programme run by the late Bishop Nathaniel Linsey of The Seventh Episcopal District. She was ordained as a minister and sent out into the world to serve as a pastor after completing the course of study.
His pastoral work has been “fruitful” and “widespread,” according to Rev. Murdaugh. When she learned of a need, she stepped in to help. She served as a pastor in various churches across the state of South Carolina.
The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Seventh Episcopal District presented her with a retirement plaque for “Outstanding Leadership and Pastoral Service to the Carolina Region from 1980-2020” among many other honours she won during the course of her service.
“Give Me My Flowers While I Can See, Smell, and Touch Them!” was her mantra. Orange, lime, and purple were her preferred hues, although she would happily wear any colour that was “bright.” A voracious reader and walker, she enjoyed spending time outside.
Maggie’s parents, Terry and Kennedy Branstetter, currently live in Summerville, SC, and have not spoken about their daughter or grandchild since their deaths. According to another family member, Terry’s health has deteriorated since the murders.
Their high school sweethearts were Caverna High School in Horse Cave, Ky., about 1960, when they first started dating. They got married in Tennessee after crossing the border from Kentucky, where they were both underage.
After graduating from college, Terry received three employment offers from IBM, Ford, and DuPont. Though his father had always been a “Ford man,” he claimed he gained his father’s okay to go with DuPont specifically because his father had always been one.
He said the friendship came to an end due to the fact that Maggie was “always tiny” and made fun of Lisa’s weight gain.
As Hineman-Moore put it, “She was just a lovely girl with the same preppy clothing we all donned.” When we drank beer in the fields, Margaret we never called her Maggie was always slender.
” She would make fun of my weight. But that’s what we all did and said. There is no justification for what she went through.
She may have gotten herself into a situation where she was unable to speak up. However, she was restrained from speaking because of her marital status. That, I believe, was the catastrophe.
Maggie enrolled in the University of South Carolina in the late 1980s, where she met Alex “Alec” Murdaugh, who was a year ahead of her in school.
The family that Maggie leaves behind includes her husband Richard Alexander Murdaugh , her eldest son Richard Alexander Murdaugh Jr. , and her sister Marian Branset Proctor.
She is also survived by her parents, Kennedy Hubbard Branstetter and Terry Lee Branstetter, Summerville, her in-laws Randolph Murdaugh III and John Marvin Murdaugh (Liz), as well as her sister-in-law Lynn Murdaugh Go.
