He apparently paid the blackmailers $300 after they threatened to release the sexual images he had been tricked into posting to all of his social media accounts unless he immediately paid them.
It has been reported by the authorities that the blackmailers used the identity of an attractive woman to set up a fake Twitter account, which they then used to send DeMay a n**e photo of.
Then they began blackmailing him for his photograph after he responded by providing them a picture of himself completely undressed .
Even though DeMay was ready to hand up $300, they continued to demand more money from him and attempted to extort $1000. Jordan DeMay committed suicide soon after.

Investigators in Marquette had reason to think that Demay had been blackmailed via social media just hours before his death. That’s what they stated.
They said that Jordan Demay was blackmailed by Instagram for taking images of himself and that criminals had coerced him into not sharing them with his family and followers. Extortion is what that is, and it is getting increasingly widespread, according to experts.
Program manager at Fox Valley Institute of Technology’s Ret National Criminal Justice Training Center: “We think youngsters are sending clearer images only because they have been detained for the past two years.”

When a friend of DeMay came forward to tell them that the blackmailers had also contacted her, the investigators stated they originally viewed the case as a “teen suicide.”
“Jordan forwarded the picture to a friend of his. She was aware that Jordan had taken his own life when she viewed the photograph, and that’s when they began demanding money from her as well. She claimed he committed suicide. As soon as they hung up, she dialled 911,” Zyburt claimed.
